The Milk Carton Kids: The Ash & Clay

The Milk Carton Kids is a California-based duo whose album, The Ash & Clay, is nominated for a 2013 Grammy for the best folk recording. Singers and guitarists Kenneth Pattengale and Joey Ryan play quiet, alluring songs that feature their wonderful harmony vocals and deft finger-style guitar. The Ash & Clay is their third recording, and in the ASCAP audio portrait Joey Ryan describes why the CD is their best collaboration yet and marks their entry into adulthood. Their sometimes hopeful, sometimes melancholic lyrics are poignant, but can be eclipsed by harmonies that recall work by Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel.
