Bobby Previte: 23 Constellations of Joan Miro

Percussionist-composer Bobby Previte wasn’t a big fan of Spanish painter Joan Miro until he walked into a retrospective at New York City’s Museum of Modern Art. Today, nearly nine years later, Previte has a new recording of 23 exquisite short pieces, each dedicated to a painting in Miro’s "Constellation" series. Like Miro, he’s created his own universe of colors, contours and drama – only Previte’s world is musical.

All Bobby Previte profiles…
Bobby Previte says he wasn’t aware of Joan Miro’s "Constellations" series until he walked into a room at New York City’s MOMA.
But once Previte saw the series, he wanted to compose music for each of the painitings – and he tried to follow what he knew of Miro’s creative process.
Previte says Miro created his own language; so Previte tried to create a parallel musical world.
Short Form
Previte says composing 23 short pieces was a giant challenge, but a rewarding one.
