Phil Lesh and Friends: Love Will See You Through

Guitarist Jorma Kaukonen was there at the start of the San Francisco sound in the 1960s, playing acoustic and electric with The Jefferson Airplane, Hot Tuna and others. In 1999, he joined former Grateful Dead bassist Phil Lesh for a memorable string of gigs that resulted in this CD. Phil and friends ended up backing Jorma on several of his songs, while Jorma brought a freshness to some near-forgotten Grateful Dead compositions.

All Phil Lesh and Friends profiles…
The CD
Jorma Kaukonen has played guitar for some of San Francisco’s most famous bands, including this notable ensemble created by Grateful Dead bassist Phil Lesh.
Deprees Diamond Blues
Jorma heard this ragtime-inspired Garcia-Hunter ballad years ago, but never realized how cool it was until he tried playing it.
Jorma’s Songbook
Phil and Friends back Jorma on two well-known songs from his ‘fingerstyle’ guitar reportoire.
Jam Bands have come a long way since the 1960s, and Kaukonen’s fellow guitarist Steve Kimmock is one of the genre’s best players.
